Hair Cut!

Well, I said I wouldn't cut Mikayla's hair until it really needed it. It really needed it! It was growing in all different places, but not evenly on her head. She had almost a "tail" of hair in the back and the front was hanging in her face all the time. So, I bit the bullet and finally got it cut.

She sat like a pro! Those who know Mikayla well, know that she doesn't really get still much. So I was very impressed that she sat quite still and talked to the lady who cut her hair. She smiled and "cheesed" it up when I took pictures too. We were done in about 5 minutes, and her hair looks so much better. It was a fun few minutes with great results.

Pool Party and BBQ

Wow...we did it! Matt decided a few weeks ago that he wanted to have a big pool party and bbq before the summer was over. Also, while we still live in the apartment and close to the pool. So I ordered custom invitations, that I got so very cheap, and sent them out to all the young couples and their families that we know in DE.

We got many "yes" replies and only a couple "no's". That meant we were expecting over 30 people. Matt wanted to make his famous ribs and chicken, so we went on the hunt for some bargains for all the meat we would need. We found ribs very cheap at Safeway, and settled on chicken in bulk from the local market. We were ready with the food. Everyone else would bring the side dishes, and there would be plenty to eat.

Saturday morning, we woke to the threat of rain and thunderstorms. We had three racks of ribs and about 35 chicken breasts waiting to be eaten and we had the threat of rain?!! We watched the radar, and decided to give the party a go...we didn't want to have to eat all of that food on our own. So we had the party and 37 people came!

The kids enjoyed a few hours of swimming and then we had dinner. Towards the end of dinner is when the storm descended upon us and we quickly huddled under the deck and on the deck. People decided that it was time to leave then, and all the husbands ran through the downpouring rain to pull the vehicles up close enough for the wife and kids to get minimally wet. Try as they might though, everyone went home soggy. Although, we had great fun in spite of the soggy rain.

We are even more excited to build our house now so we can have more parties and have space for people if rain does threaten our plans. It was a great time of fellowship, and we are looking forward to the next party already.

More Carowinds

Wow it has been a long time since I last posted. Two weeks ago, we decided last minute to accompany my mom and siblings to South Carolina again! I rushed around getting things ready, and off we went. We traveled through the night, so we had no traffic.

While we were there, we went to the amusement park, Carowinds, again. The first night, we only got on a few rides, and watched an indoor ice show. While we were waiting for the ice show to start, Mikayla was playing by a big fountain. It was fenced in so she couldn't walk right into it. Even so, she managed to get quite wet by just playing next to it. Because her shoes were wet, and she doesn't quite understand the concept of walking, not running, she fell and scraped up both knees. They started bleeding quite badly too. We didn't have any napkins or bandaids to clean her up, so Kristi ran to get napkins while we searched for a bandaid. All the while, Mikayla was eating fruit snacks, without a care in the world. I thought she might be concerned when she saw the blood, but she looked down and just tried to wipe it away with her hand. Didn't really phase her.

The next day, we spent time at the water park and Mikayla picked up a few more bumps and bruises. She likes to play hard. She loved the water even more this time! She went under falling water and loved getting the water in her face. She also discovered a slide. She would have gone down all day if she could have. She was too small to go alone, so an adult had to go every time. Fortunately, there were quite a few adults for her to go with, but they tired out before she ever did. She learned to be content just playing in the water though.

Later that week, Mikayla ran away from her Aunt Kristi, and fell yet again! By this time, we had bandaids and napkins in our bags! She was so excited to ride the rides, that she just didn't want to wait for anyone. She wanted to run from ride to ride. We tried to keep up, and did an ok job, but she usually was out in front. She fell one more time and ripped off her scab from the previous falls. That was traumatic for her and those around her. Many commented that Mommy was calm and collected, and I told them, Mommy has done this several times before.

All in all, we had a blast of a week. We didn't want to leave, but we missed Daddy too much to stay any longer. I have some great pictures, but I can't get them to upload right now...I will keep trying though.
